Rachel Lam has been shaped by a deep commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by Chinese-Americans in the U.S., particularly in navigating essential resources like college advisory planning, small business support for Asian-immigrant community, and social engagement. Recognizing these gaps, Rachel has made it her mission to bridge them. She serves as a Community Liaison with Elmhurst United, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life, education standards, and safety in diverse communities. Rachel is also one of the founding members and currently serves on the board of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater New York (CACAGNY), where she actively advocates for the rights and equity of Chinese-Americans. Her role as a Certified Business Mentor with SCORE, a national nonprofit organization partnered with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Expanding her financial knowledge to a broader audience, Rachel offers free, ongoing financial counseling to the working class community, focusing on key areas such as budgeting, credit card debt elimination, and building a six-month emergency fund. Additionally, Rachel served as an Instructor Teaching Assistant with the NYC Police Department Youth Outreach Program. This program provided youth with essential skills in spending, saving, investing, and financial planning, equipping them with the knowledge needed for financial preparedness and decision-making. She volunteered with Immigrant Hope, a nonprofit that provides critical immigration legal services to underserved individuals. Under the guidance of an attorney, she has played a key role in assisting Latin American youth in securing their immigration status, as well as volunteered with CUNY Citizenship Now to help low-income individuals file for U.S. citizenship.
